Hongmin Lee "Meta Universe"
February 10, 2021 / March 13, 2021
Open Tuesday - Saturday from 11 AM - 7 PM
Bulging muscles, vibrant color and graphic, visceral metamorphoses characterize Hongmin Lee’s compositions. His subjects transform into monsters; powerful, grotesque beings that explore themes of despair, determination and coming of age. For Lee’s first exhibition with Over the Influence, the South Korean painter presents a new series of grotesque psychological portraits. The exhibition will be on view in the upper gallery through 13 March 2021 in Gallery 1.
Lee studied animation at the Korea National University of Arts, and cites artists including Akira Toriyama and Katsuhiro Otomo as influences. After graduating, he set up the arts collective Goo For Brothers, along with Seungchul Oh and Jaejung Beck. With a shared love of kaiju and experimental imagery, the three have been working together since the early 2010s in illustration, fine art, graffiti, comics and animation.
