Austin Harris Biography
B. 1995 Seattle, WA, USA. – Lives and works in New York, NY, USA.
Austin Harris’s humorous portrayals of hyper-masculinity are a mechanism for coping with a rural upbringing surrounded by drugs, alcohol, violence, right wing political views and misogyny. His figures are painted with a plastic, artificial surface that represents both skin and rubber, something that can be molded and manipulated. The hard edges and sharp environment represent the dangerous world that men have created. Something that is
constantly pressuring individuals’ subjectivity.
Born and raised outside of Seattle, Washington, Austin Harris received his BFA in Studio Art from Central Washington University, Ellensburg, WA, USA and is currently an MFA Candidate at New York Academy of Art, New York, NY, USA. He lives and works in New York, NY, USA. In 2019, Harris participated in a residency at Notre Dame Global Center Residency, Kylemore, Ireland.
