Camilla Engström

Camilla Engström Biography

B. 1989 Örebro, SE. Lives and works in Los Angeles, CA, USA.

Working with intuition and openness to the subconscious, Camilla Engström’s paintings celebrate the turbulent power of the natural world. In turns irreverent and spiritually rousing, Engstrom’s work calls forth a reminder of our physical place within the vastness of the universe. Her work is in many ways a natural continuation of the visual conversation started by Georgia O’Keeffe.

Interspersed within her landscapes and smaller illustrations, Engstrom explores the physical self by way of her alter ego ‘Husa’ (housemaid in Swedish). Husa will morph at times into a bountiful mother earth, only to be presented as an impish trickster in the next series. It is exactly this mutability which makes Husa so appealing, she offers a refreshingly silly way to embody freedom.

Born 1989 Örebro, Sweden, Engström is a self-taught painter. Her work has been exhibited in group and solo shows in Los Angeles, CA, USA; New York, CA, USA and Hong Kong, China. She currently lives and works in Los Angeles, CA, USA.
