Scout Zabinski Biography

B. 1997 New Jersey, NJ, USA – Lives and works in New York, USA

Born in 1997, Scout Zabinski grew up in southern New Jersey, where her family moved from New York City prior to her parent’s divorce. Scout began making art at
around the time when she developed an eating disorder in boarding school at the age of fifteen. While struggling with anorexia nervosa and bulimia, her artwork focused on mental health and centered on body image. Scout’s “psychological self portraits” explore the nature of trauma and act as meditations on her own personal history with sexual assault, abuse, eating disorders, anxiety and depression. Usually only working on one piece at a time, each work deals with a specific point in an unpunctuated equilibrium. Scout went Gallatin School of Individualized Study to study Psychology, Literature from the 19thcentury concerning the woman in the domicile and the Renaissance, Art History, and Post-Colonial Feminism. She also took painting classes while receiving her BA.
