Over the Influence is pleased to present Megan Whitmarsh’s exhibition Dream Work at the Los Angeles gallery.
The show, which is the American artist’s second artistic collaboration with OTI LA, marks a return to her favored motif of fabric and mixed media. The exhibition is on view from 14 August to 18 September 2021.
Dream Work consists of a series of fabric collages. In place of found imagery, though, Whitmarsh creates a variety of textile objects: Cigarettes, dream people, telephones, hands, eyes, newspapers, and other accoutrements of daily life are rendered in soft fabrics. The works are painted, sewn, and appliquéd. Materials, which include velvet, cotton, silk, linen, and canvas, also include found objects: old bed sheets become the fabric for a box of Kleenex, or phone buttons, or earrings.
