Mario Joyce’s In-Depth Interview With Art Hag Magazine
Art Hag Magazine recently met with American artist Mario Joyce to discuss about his experience at the ArtCrawl Harlem residency program on Governor’s Island located in New York harbor. The artist’s residency was from 24 July to 3 September 2021 where he was joined by fellow artists Melissa Sutherland Moss and Michael Obele. The island is only 800 yards away from lower Manhattan and yet it provides artists a creative sanctuary away from the city. Art Hag’s interview provides an insightful look into the artist’s creative process and influences. Mario shares about the responsibility he feels to capture his racial identity and ancestral legacy properly and with respect in all his paintings.
