Widely seen as the leader of the emerging Young Thai Art (YTA) movement, Gongkan is making his US debut at OTI LA.
His background is a medley of inspirations that range from street art aesthetics to graphic design. He shot to fame with his teleport art images found throughout NYC’s underground graffiti scene, and which later popped again in more mature works. The artist works seamlessly amongst different genres and disciplines. Tip of the Iceberg are brand new works made especially for the LA exhibition. Inspired by social and environmental issues these works provide a great introduction to the artist.
Tip of the Iceberg is on view from 01 May to 13 June 2021.
ARTIST
Growing up in Bangkok, Gongkan graduated from the School of Arts at Silpakorn University and began a professional career in advertising and graphic design. However it was relocating to New York City for 3 years to study Fine Arts with a focus in painting that altered the direction of his artistic expression.
