Presented concurrently with FRIEZE Los Angeles, this exhibition premiers artist Shirley Glass and features a new series of paintings by Mario Joyce.

Mario Joyce

Mario Joyce Belyusar is a self-taught African American artist based in New York City. His artistic process began early and was heavily influenced by prejudices experienced growing up Black and Queer in rural Ohio. He began using both genealogical research and paint to further explore and share the social history of discrimination.

Shirley Glass

Shirley Glass left home at 17 years old, married young and began to take UCLA extension classes in the evening after family dinner (so she could still be a mother). Her husband, Eddie, built her first studio in their home so she could take care of the children, who became one of Shirley’s primary subjects, aside of from the occasional model that would pop in. Her practice examines issues of interpersonal relationships, identity, fear, pain, and the pursuit of pleasure.
