Everything in Five Seconds

Stefan Meier

833 East 3rd Street
Los Angeles CA 90013

Open: Tuesday – Sunday 11 – 6

Over the Influence is thrilled to present Stefan Meier’s debut solo exhibition Everything in Five Seconds at the gallery’s Los Angeles location. In this series Meier is presenting a body of works that crystallize the intrinsic human urge to document lived experiences, and attempt to make sense of them.

For the artist, this practice is as much an artistic one as it is a practical one. These pieces act as a form of record keeping- an act that is as ancient as art itself. Akin to prehistorical cave men who kept record through marking on walls in ancient caves, Meier makes his marks on the canvas. Meier places disjointed concepts in a natural conversation with one another, mirroring the complexities of the inner lives within each of us. There might be a hyper realistic cartoon figure from childhood, besides lines of prose seemingly taken from a biology textbook, layered on top of recognizable imagery from mass media, etc.
